Monstera Burle Marx Flame
The Monstera Burle Marx Flame is a rare and fascinating variety of the genus Monstera, which is best known for its exceptionally strongly cut and wavy leaves. These leaves have a narrow, lanceolate shape reminiscent of flames, which gives it the name "flame". Unlike many other Monstera species, it has a much more filigree leaf structure, which makes it a special piece of jewellery in any plant collection.
Origin:
The Monstera Burle Marx Flame comes from the tropical rainforests of South America, especially from the dense primeval forests of Brazil. It was named after the famous Brazilian landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx, who was known for his predilection for native plants and brought the beauty of tropical plants to modern garden design.
Care instructions:
Light:
The Monstera Burle Marx Flame favours bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can burn the sensitive leaves, so a location near a window with filtered light is ideal. It can survive even in weaker light conditions, but then the growth slows down, and the characteristic leaf incisions may be less pronounced.
Pouring:
This monstera needs regular, even watering. The soil should always be slightly damp, but not soaked. Waterlogging is absolutely to be avoided, as the plant is sensitive to root rot. It is advisable to let the upper part of the soil dry slightly between the watering.
Humidity:
The Monstera Burle Marx Flame thrives best at a high humidity of 60-80%. An additional increase in humidity by spraying or the use of a humidifier can keep the foliage healthy and shiny.
Floor:
The plant prefers well-permeable, nutrient-rich soil that remains slightly moist. A mixture of peat, perlite and some orchid soil is ideal to ensure the right balance between moisture storage and drainage.
Temperature:
This monstera grows best at temperatures between 20 and 28 °C. Temperatures below 15 °C should be avoided, as they can stress the plant.
Fertilising:
During the growing season (spring and summer), the Monstera Burle Marx Flame should be fertilised every two to four weeks with a balanced liquid fertiliser (NPK 20-20-20). In winter or during the resting phase, fertilising can be significantly reduced or completely stopped.
Special features:
The Monstera Burle Marx Flame is characterised by its striking leaf shapes and incisions, which give the plant an almost sculptural appearance. Since it is relatively rare to find on the market, it is highly appreciated by collectors. Her growing aerial roots give her a particularly tropical appearance and help her absorb nutrients from the environment when she climbs. These roots can either be left on the trunk or gently channelled into the soil to give the plant additional stability.
