Monstera aureopinata

Monstera aureopinata is relatively easy to care for if the right conditions are observed:

•  Light: This plant prefers bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can burn the leaves, while too little light can lead to weaker growth and less pronounced leaf cuts.
•  Watering: Keep the substrate evenly moist, but not wet. Allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly between waterings to avoid waterlogging, as this can lead to root rot. Watering can be reduced during the winter months. 
•  Humidity: As Monstera aureopinata originates from tropical regions, it prefers high humidity (over 60 %). It can be helpful to spray the plant regularly or use a humidifier to create its ideal conditions.
•  Temperature: This Monstera species thrives best at temperatures between 18 and 27 °C. It should be protected from cool draughts and sudden changes in temperature.

Monstera aureopinata requires a permeable, nutrient-rich substrate that holds water well but also provides sufficient aeration for the roots. A mixture of potting soil, bark mulch and some perlite or coconut fibres provides ideal drainage and aeration. Alternatively, a high-quality indoor plant soil with additional substrate for epiphytes can also be used.

During the growth phase (spring and summer), Monstera aureopinata should be fed every two to four weeks with a balanced liquid fertiliser (NPK ratio 20-20-20) or a fertiliser specifically for foliage plants. In autumn and winter, fertilisation should be reduced to a minimum or stopped altogether.

Monstera aureopinata originates from the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, especially from regions with dense, humid jungle. In the wild, it often grows as an epiphyte that can climb up trees to reach the light of the rainforest canopy. Due to its origin, it favours tropical conditions with plenty of humidity and warm temperatures.
