Anthurium reflexinervivum seedling

Anthurium reflexinervivum originates from the tropical rainforests of Central America, particularly from areas in Costa Rica and Panama. In the wild, it grows as an epiphyte or lithophyte on tree trunks or rocks, where it has adapted to the humid and shady conditions of the rainforest. These conditions should also be imitated as far as possible when cultivating it indoors.

The Anthurium reflexinervivum is relatively easy to care for if the right conditions are created. The plant prefers bright, indirect light conditions, as direct sunlight can lead to leaf burn. Semi-shady spots are ideal. The soil should be well-drained and loose to avoid waterlogging. An orchid substrate or a mixture of potting compost, pine bark and perlite is well suited to this plant. The soil should be kept slightly moist without drowning the roots. Allow the substrate to dry out slightly between waterings.

Anthurium reflexinervivum grows best in a loose, well-aerated mixture that retains moisture but also allows excess water to drain away. An ideal mixture could consist of orchid soil, peat moss, pine bark and perlite. The substrate should provide the roots with sufficient air circulation to prevent root rot.

The Anthurium reflexinervivum is known for its deep green, heavily veined leaves, which give it a unique appearance and make it a sought-after collector's plant. The leaves reflect the light in an interesting way, emphasising the structure of the veins. In addition, the seedling grows into an epiphytic plant over time, which can be cultivated well in hanging baskets or as a decorative climbing plant.

During the growth phase (spring and summer), fertilise every 4 to 6 weeks with an organic liquid fertiliser or an orchid fertiliser at half concentration. During the dormant phase (autumn and winter), fertilisation can be discontinued or reduced to a greater interval.
