Anthurium seedlings surprise package.
Anthurium seedlings prefer a loose, well-aerated substrate that retains moisture but prevents waterlogging. A mixture of peat, bark chips, perlite, and a little sphagnum moss is ideal. The substrate should be slightly acidic, with a pH between 5.5 and 6.5, to create optimal growing conditions.
For optimal development, anthurium seedlings should be kept at a constant temperature between 20 and 28 °C. Avoid temperature fluctuations and drafts, as these can impair the growth of these delicate plants.
Anthuriums prefer a high humidity level of 60–80% to thrive. A mini-greenhouse, a plastic box, or a humidifier can help provide the necessary moisture. A location in a bathroom or near a humidifier is also beneficial.
The substrate for anthurium seedlings should be kept consistently moist, but not wet. Water with room-temperature, low-lime water; rainwater is ideal. Waterlogging must be strictly avoided, as it can lead to root rot. During the colder months, watering can be reduced to avoid stressing the plant during its dormant period.
Anthurium seedlings need bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can burn the delicate young leaves, while too little light can stunt their growth. Artificial light, such as LED grow lights, can also be used if natural light is insufficient.
During the growing season (spring and summer), anthurium seedlings should be fertilized with a weak fertilizer solution (1/4 of the recommended concentration) approximately 4–6 weeks after germination. Use a balanced liquid fertilizer, for example, 20-20-20, every four to six weeks. We recommend watering with a pH of 4.9–5.3. Fertilization can be reduced or omitted during the cooler months, as growth is slower at this time.
Once the seedlings have reached a height of 5–10 cm and developed several leaves, they can be transplanted into larger pots. Be careful not to damage the delicate roots.
Anthurium seedlings need good air circulation, especially around the roots, to prevent mold and disease. A small fan can be helpful. However, drafts should be avoided, as they could damage the delicate leaves.
To prevent pests such as spider mites, thrips, or fungal infections, the environment should be kept clean and the plants regularly checked for signs of pests. Infested plant parts should be removed immediately and treated with a suitable product if necessary.
Anthuriums grow slowly, especially in the seedling stage. It is important to be patient and give the plants enough time to develop.
